About > Meet The Team
"As a co-founder and owner of a construction and design-build company and involved in it's management for close to 30 years, I have a lot of understanding of how the creative process interacts with the built process. It's fun participating in a process where a client's idea goes from a dream to an actual physical building."
"I love the creative process and the design effort. However, I'm also very comfortable on a construction site. It's all integral to helping a client achieve their ultimate goal."
Michael Spivey, AIA , NCARB
With over 30 years of experience in architectural design and construction. Michael Spivey knows how important service is to this clients.
Unlike the owners and principals at other architecture firms who attend the initial meeting and hand the project off to their staff, Michael stays actively involved in every design project and is available to answer questions at any time.
Michael has designed everything from dream homes and golf course clubhouses to veterinary clinics, office space, banks, and restaurants. He believes there is a place in the market for all types of designers, including those who work out of their homes or offer stock plans, but discerning clients who can afford the luxury of creating their own custom homes and commercial spaces deserve a team of professionals who understand and cater to their needs throughout the entire process.
Although he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture from Clemson University, Michael’s professional experience also includes construction, giving him a unique understanding of how the creative process interacts with the building process. The first five years of his career, he built everything he designed from the ground up, and he co-owned a design and construction company before starting Spivey Architects and focusing solely on design.
His creativity spills over into his hobbies, which include playing guitar and woodworking, boating, golf, and flying planes. He has served on several Charleston, SC boards, is Past President of Charleston Breakfast Rotary Club, Past Commodore of the James Island Yacht Club, and holds two U.S. Patents in product design.
Starting at an early age with Lego, Lincoln Logs, building tree forts, and an active imagination, Brad’s interest in buildings during playtime grew into his adulthood passion for architecture. He strives to live in a world filled with well-designed buildings while always having a fresh cup of coffee close by. With more than 20 years of experience in the low country, he has worked with a vast number of notable clients across the state.

Neal arrived in the architecture field via an alternative but practical route by way of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands and Martha’s Vineyard, MA. Equipped with a B.S. in Environmental Design, over a span of 30+ years he worked his way up through the positions of laborer, framer, carpenter, contractor, draftsman, designer, project manager, and residential design business owner. His aptitude in understanding how the building and design process interrelate helps in his ability to effectively communicate with contractors and clients.
2000 miles from home in Taiwan, Jason has just received a Master’s of Architecture from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Now working as an intern architect, everything is a learning experience in which he aims to polish his skillset from the very foundation (pun intended). Jason has a wide range of interests and has held many titles in the past- teacher, musician, founder, film director, and soldier… Becoming an architect is just another life goal he is determined to achieve.
